What is a Maker Faire? Watch this film to find out!

The Maker Faire was established by Make Magazine to:

"celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset."

The first event was held over an April weekend in San Mateo, California, in 2006 and consisted of demonstrations, practical workshops and an outdoor space for large scale art and engineering installations.  Expanding each year, by the 2008 event almost 100,000 people came from around the world to join in the fun.  You can get a flavour of that event here:

The Newcastle Maker Faire is the first one in the UK, and will be more like the very first San Mateo event.  Activities including the Robots Featherweight UK Championships, Art Cars, fire-breathing horses and more will be taking place at the Discovery Museum, Centre for Life and Times Square, with some roving displays exploring the surrounding city.  We hope you will enjoy the fun, and we look forward to being as big as the Californian event one day!
